Has anyone ever been to a game show taping?
We have been looking for tickets to Family Feud since we moved to Atlanta. The website has been saying they are not doing live audiences but tonight we clicked the learn more button and were taken to this page: https://on-camera-audiences.com/shows/Family_Feud We found available tickets for this Friday afternoon. So we are making the near two hour trek from our home NW to Fayetteville in Friday traffic. We are so excited!!! |

I would love to be an audience member for Family Feud. I think Steve Harvey is a hilarious host + I would love to be included in the audience polls! In the mid-90’s me & my Sister attended a taping of The Price is Right in Burbank (?) near Universal Studios. My Sister got picked as a contestant and did great on the entire show. She made it out of contestant’s row, won $1,000 on the wheel spin then won her showcase at the conclusion of the show. She won a new car, a new washer & dryer, etc. is what I am able to recall now. She also won a beautiful real Pearl necklace but forfeited that prize due to its expense. She told me that the downside to winning all that loot was the enormous taxes she incurred later on. She didn’t feel like she actually “won” much considering all the fees she had to front to receive her prizes. This was over two decades ago. Things may be better now. 🏆 |

Op back with my report. It is disjointed as I am trying to share from memory.
Four and a half hours that is how long we were there! We arrived at 4pm for our check in time at 430 and didn’t get back to our car until 8:30. We had priority tickets and went in just after the family members of the families playing. Then they let in the standbys. I want to say by the time we got in the taping area, there were maybe 100 to 125 seats. Once we were in, there was no leaving. I need to mention there were no cell phones allowed or no cameras. They had metal detectors and your tickets also reminded you no cameras, no phones! There were two timed tapings and we could hear the first taping in the stage next door. Around 545, upbeat music starts playing loud and a warm up comedian comes out and explains how we are to call out when the board flips between each game, yell out fast money, and just be enthusiastic in general. We also had to wear business casual, no jeans, no shorts, no hoe up from the flo up looking clothes. A couple of things to note: Tapings take anywhere from 60-90 minutes which are then edited down to 22-26 minutes of game play you see on tv. There is a lot of hurry up and wait as with any taped program. Anything no related to actual game play can be edited out. In between commercial breaks, Steve talked a lot to the audience and he is a lot filthier than you see on tv. While we didn’t see anything come close to the best stupid answer to “Name a word or phrase that follows “pork”….”cupine”, we did hear some pretty dumb answers. It all looks so easy on tv so I get the nervousness. We saw two shows taped. There was just enough time for Steve to change for the next game and get a makeup touch up. I’ve seen lots of game show sets as well as the Johnny Carson on Tonight Show and Late show NBC with David Letterman sets and as always they are much smaller than they appear on tv. Families do pay for their airfare and lodging for tapings. They do not get the money until the show airs and the IRS and state taxes keeps 40-50%. Family Feud wants people to win, but each game only awards a max of 100,000 if they hit 200 in each fast money before winning the car for five times winning. There has only been one 200 point first contestant fast money in the game show history with the late Ray Combs as a host. A production staffer said the survey questions and answers for the fast money round are set you cannot get 200 the first round anymore though you can come close. The worst game in the Steve Harvey era was when the first player got 188 points and the second player got FIVE ZEROS in a row. It was a lot of fun, but made for a long day. |
