| Does anyone know what annual Para jobs pay (10 months). I am applying for a Paraeducator position (job grade 12/13) 70 hours bi-weekly. |
| No wonder they are short on teachers |
so for annual salary on that scale it says based on 2088 hours. how many hours would this position expect to do? |
|
I'm a 70 hour para and I make 27k/year.
|
You can make more working for Starbucks, Trader Joe’s, Macy’s, or Target. Macy’s has leave benefits if you work 30 hours per week plus store discounts. |
| According to the chart, you will be making about $19 per hour. Because you are not full time, probably no benefits or leave. |
Any position over 40 hours bi-weekly (20 hours per week) is eligible for full benefits and sick leave. |
And that's why there are so many openings for paras. $27,000 a year for 35 hours a week (minus taxes) and no benefits. |
Why do people comment on things they don't know about?? Permanent paras (v. temporary) get benefits if they work 20 hours per week or more AND receive leave and benefits. OP, you'll make $18.97 per hour starting. Paras will be paid for 197 days next school year (see the Work Schedule for that information). Those of us who choose to be paras over working retail do it in part because we love to help children learn and become more confident in their abilities. I have no desire to work in retail and deal with complaining adults every day; I love the energy in a school and knowing that I am making a difference in children's lives. Best of luck, OP! |
Please stop spreading misinformation! The only paras who don't receive benefits are those working under 20 hours per week or those who are considered temporary. |
Many paras start in temp positions and transition to permanent positions the following year. |

Happy (permanent) 4 hour per day (benefits!) para here.
As to retail - retail hours are not terribly predictable and I don't want to work evenings or weekends. Been there, done that; never again! |

I'm the para that posted my salary above. I do get benefits. And besides the financial benefits, I have the same snow days and vacation days as my kids do, so I don't have the stress of finding coverage on those days. I don't have to take work home with me. I truly enjoy working with children.
Do I think I deserve to be paid more? Yes, we paras are very underpaid. Especially with all the pivoting we have done this year. But at this stage in my life, I'm happy with what I'm doing. |
Obviously I couldn't afford to support my family on that salary, my dh makes about 150k, so we have a good HHI between the two of us. Not dcum good, but definitely comfortable for us. |
