How many colleges did your kid apply to?

There are probably 10 schools my kid really wants to go to but they are schools that are on everyone’s list.

How many reach, target and safeties did your kid apply to?

The common app seems to make it much easier to apply to colleges. He could just apply to 50 colleges. I think Georgetown may be the only school my kid wants to go to that isn’t in the common app.

Highly doubt he’ll apply to 50 schools. Many of the selective schools have essay requirements so that would be a nightmare not to mention expensive.

My Ds applied to two, one ED he was fairly sure he’d get into and one EA safety. Done after ED.

My DD applied to five. One ED, three EA, one RD. She did three safeties, one reach and her ED which was supposed to be a reach/target. Got in ED. She was ready to go with 3-4 other schools if she didn’t get into her ED but was already into two safeties EA.

Let your DC apply to all the schools he wants to, but you'll only pay for, say, $750 total of application fees. That would be approximately 8-10 schools total.

My DC applied to 10. I don't know how many were match, reach, etc. The last 2 years have shown that no school is truly a safety.

Sure, apply to 50 schools. Just be aware you'll be paying for the pleasure (between $0 and $90, depending on the school, not to mention the time spent).

One applied to 8- accepted to 6, WL 1 and rejected 1
One applied to 9- accepted to 7.

Don’t have your kid apply to more than 10. It is silly, expensive and stressful to put together quality applications.

applied to 2 -- accepted at 1; wait listed at 1

IN addition, you will totally piss off the college counselor at your high school who has to process all of those.

Good luck with that.

Only 2, but there were more in the pipeline. One rolling, admitted, one ED, admitted, then done.

3 reach; 3 target; 3 safety and 1 rolling admission. One reach was EA.

My DC applied to 7 - really only had 6 on the list but added one that was free application/waiver. 2 reach, 2 match, 3 safeties. Got into all of them.

Mine applied to 14 I think, but 4 of those were in the UC system and you just check a box to add another UC school and pay more.

Trust me, your kid will not want to apply to 50 schools. Most want a supplemental essay--or two!
