ear infection

Anonymous
My lab seems to have ear infection. There are some dark buildups in one ear, and she shakes her head more often than usual. Could someone suggest an ear drop or other remedy? I'd like to try to fix it myself before I take her to see a vet. Thank you!

Take the dog to the vet before it ends up as a hematoma and an $800 bill (just happened to a friend).

You will not find otc steroid/antibiotic drops. And this is what she needs. Clean both ears with qtips, use https://www.amazon.com/Virbac-003108-Epi-Otic-Advanced-Cleaner/dp/B074P6C27C?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1&psc=1, and take her to the vet. She is in pain.

Why are you not taking her to the vet? That is what she needs....the medication is prescription only.

I use Zymox Otis ear solution on a bi-weekly basis to keep my dog’s ears clean. It also has hydrocortisone to reduce irritation. It will not cure an active infection though. You should take your dog to the vet ASAP
Ear infections can become very painful. The first time my dog had one I didn’t realize it at once. She kept shaking her head and then started crying in pain after a day. I still feel bad I didn’t take her in immediately.

Especially for a Lab, you really need to get to the vet to get the drops to treat her ears. You can buy the earwash OTC to help keep the gross buildup under control once you have the infection under control, but you need to treat the infection.
