| I have a great job now, but we're relocating. I work at the front desk of a nursing home. I check in people and give elevator access to guests. During about half of my shift, I have downtime to read, study, etc. I am a PT student. I am also considering working at a gym such as Lifetime fitness. The most flexible schedule would be childcare, and a benefit would be a free membership. We pay close to $400 for a family of four, so that would be a nice perk. I don't think a family membership would be free, but it would be discounted. My sister thinks it's a bad idea because working around kids can be stressful. The shifts are short, and it seems you can work a flexible enough schedule. Another perk would be that I could bring my kids with me. That's not super important because my husband could take care of the kids. Our older child goes to language school on Saturdays, so I try to work Saturdays. I'm looking for any other ideas. I worked in case management before having children. The pay isn't enough to afford quality childcare. It's important that I work an odd schedule to take care of my two-year-old during the week. |
| OP here. I have worked with children before. I nannied in college. My days are pretty chaotic with two boys, so I am not worried about not being able to handle it. I think my sister is concerned it won't give me a break, similar to what I have now. The environment is tranquil most of the time, almost library-like. I could look for a job similar to what I have now, but it's not always possible to work a few days a week. Right now, I work three days. |
| Definitely don't work in childcare—lots of crying. |
| I think that sounds like a great plan. |
| If you can afford a $400 gym membership, be picky about your job. |
| Work at the spa at Lifetime fitness or the cafe? I'm not sure what the schedules are like. |

Work at the preschool where your 2 yr old will be going next year Appky for like the Tu/Thu schedule.
win-win |
That's not going to give her a break from being a mom, and unless his tuition is free, it would be a wash. Working at lifetime would be better because there are no diaper changes. |
| Substitute teaching. |
| Security guard. Flexible hours, benefits, often plenty of time at a desk with not a lot to do proactively, so time to study. Work locations and environments vary considerably, so you can be selective in finding roles which suit your temperament and personality. |
OP here. This is essentially what I do now. I am a contractor. My company works with different sites such as apartments, hotels, and schools. I'm going to see if they have another site closer to where we're moving. This job seems like my best bet because it's low-stress and quiet. I've been thinking about the childcare gym.option, and I don't want to do that. I think it would ruin my gym experience working where I work out/ get my break. Lifetime gets louder compared to the YMCA. Most of the workers are in high school or college. |

A mom friend does sleep study monitoring.
It's a nighttime position, though, so not sure if that would work for you. |
