Cities similar to Denver

Anonymous
I spent a month working remotely in Denver in spring 2021 and absolutely loved it. Looking to do another month somewhere else this fall. I liked that people were very friendly, it was close to outdoor activities, and it had big city cultural amenities. Where would you recommend?

Portland -- either Maine or Oregon

Portland, Maine is great but is far from big feeling wilderness. It also might be lacking in big city feel because Boston is the big city and isn't far.

There are few places like the Front Range. SLC comes to mind as similar. I've heard good things about Boise.

Phoenix in the fall is great

Atlanta has so much to offer

San Diego?

If you go in October or November, Phoenix/Scottsdale would be perfect. But it's too hot in September.

Seattle would be great in summer but could be pretty cool/grey by fall.

Atlanta is sprawling and while Chattanooga is only two hours away IMO the great outdoors feel really far from metro atl.

Charleston.

If you can go in October or November, weather will be great. We have been in October several times and it's gorgeous.

It has a slightly more compact feel than Denver and no pro sports, but otherwise has a lot of the same features. Lots of outdoor stuff nearby -- beach is very close, plus kayaking in the low country. The restaurant scene is phenomenal, it has some decent concert venues, and lots of fun mini-neighborhoods to explore. Plus some cool old architecture, a few historical sites, and a ton of fascinating history if you are into that kind of thing. Every time I'm there I think "huh I could 100% live here" which is surprising because I am a committed big city person. But it's one of those smaller cities that straddles urban and quaint really well.

Juneau, AK. Super outdoorsy and very transient with seasonal workers, so easy to strike up friendships.

So much hiking within an hours drive of the metro.

I grew up in Denver and lived in Richmond for a time and it felt similar

If you liked Denver you might also like Albuquerque, lots to do and see in New Mexico and you could catch the Balloon Fiesta, which is usually around Indigenous People’s day.
