DCPS is planning to divide Glover Park and re-assign families within Stoddert's boundaries to the new Foxhall School (1550 Foxhall Road, NW).

Mayor Bowser's plan would re-assign families within Stoddert's boundaries to the new Foxhall School, even though Foxhall is not accessible or walkable from Glover Park, or any portion of Stoddert's current boundaries. If Stoddert families were re-assigned to Foxhall, the average distance for Stoddert families to their assigned school would change from 0.4 miles to 1.2 miles.

Moreover, there is no direct way for Stoddert families to reach the Foxhall School, either on foot or by vehicle. Re-assigning Stoddert families to the proposed Foxhall School would increase congestion. And it would also run counter to the Mayor’s goal of encouraging families to walk to school.

If you live in Glover Park you need to call the Mayor, Chan and your ANC commissioner. Last map put out showed everyone below Benton going to the new school over in Fox Hall. This will impact your kids and your resell value. The solution is to expand Stoddert not a new school in an area with no kids.

For those who don't live in the neighborhood, this is akin to currently walking 1 block from your home to Stoddert and changing the boundary to be forced to attend a new school 1.2 miles away. It really makes no sense.

The issue is that Stoddard is in the far southwestern corner of the boundary, rather than being in the center.

I imagine the same people denying this here are the ones who - despite not living in Glover Park - spam the Glover Park listserv with identical musings telling Glover Park how we all have it wrong and how they are right and just and true.

The truth is as that petition says that DCPS's current plan to build a large school at Foxhall (and not expand seats at Stoddert) would require kids from Glover Park to travel 2 miles to fill it.

The posters here complain about whether a map is final, or that an expansion that doesn't add seats is an expansion, or what DCPS's plan is or some other lawyerly reading of words. The plan is to build a large school. To fill the school, they will force kids from Glover Park to travel to it. DCPS hasn't filed the plan form in triplicate to satisfy the people above.

By 2027 Key is projected to be 148 over capacity and Mann is 127. Stoddert is a relatively minor player in the picture at 65 kids over capacity.

So just Key and Mann are 275 over capacity in five years. But that assumes everything stays the same. At both schools there is no PK3 and only enough PK4 seats for about half the families that want them. Both schools will be in the high 500's enrollment, which means about 80 kids per grade. Going to full PK3 and PK4 adds about 80 PK3 and 40 PK4 kids to each school, 120 kids per school, 240 kids. Add that to the 275 and you get 535. DCPS is saying the new school will be 550 seats. DCPS considers any school over 85% utilization to be full, this school will be at 97.3% utilization.

With zero kids from Stoddert.
