My husband and I are looking for a pediatrician for our baby to be... anyone know:

Lawrence Cohen (SS)
Deborah Engel (SS)
Robert Gancayco (SS)
Mindy Maggid (Rockville)
Pamela Parker (SS)
Geeta Shah (Olney)
Amy Solomon (Rockville)
Scott Wissman (Rockville)

or any other recommendations, preferably Silver Spring/Burtonsville area... thanks mamas!

Also, curious to hear how important you think location is? I hear Capitol Medical Group is awesome but we live in Burtonsville...hmmmm.....

I LOVE CMG, but honestly, for all the times in the first year you call about a rash or a low fever or green snot, and they say "why dont you come in," it is really nice to live close to your ped. Its probably less important once you've made it through the first year, or at least the first flu season!

Congrats on the impending arrival.

I agree w/ the PP re: location. Our insurance is changing to a company not accepted by our pediatrician, and I'm SO BUMMED, in part because their office is very convenient to our house. I actually considered CMG b/c of the strong reviews, but ultimately decided the drive wasn't worth it (I'm in NW DC).

I tried to set up a prenatal appointment to get a feel for Dr. Gancayco's office and they don't do that. All the other practices seem to accommodate that quite happily. Not to say it's a bad office, but I would rather find out that it's not a good fit for me before baby comes.

Didn't Amy Solomon pass away?

Location is huge. Our insurance is also no longer covering our ped, but we're staying for now, in part because they're close. A close location is great not only for the frequent trips during the newborn stage, but I also expect it'll be nice if and when we do sick visits.

We use Dr. Cohen and are very happy with the practice (Discovery Pediatrics). They are open 7 days a week (for sick appointments) and are really good about returning phone calls. I also love that you can see the same doctor for every scheduled visit. There are a number of posts on this practice in the archives... might be worth searching through. The three doctors are all wonderful, but have very different mannerisms.

We've seen Mindy Maggid for several years now, and we've been very happy with her (and with the other 2 doctors in the practice).

One of my good friends goes to Pamela Parker and loves her!

We see Dr. Feldman at Pediatric and Adolescent Care of Silver Spring and he's really really great. We've also seen Dr. Paxton at the same practice and really liked her as well. I don't know about the other doctors at that practice. . .my BIL and SIL's kids also see Dr. Feldman and love him.
