Field trips and the storm tomorrow.

What are the chances that MCPS/the school will cancel a field trip due to this storm? My daughter’s school has a field trip to Hersheypark scheduled for tomorrow and now I am worried. https://www.washingtonpost.com/weather/2022/06/13/dc-storms-mcs-derecho/?fbclid=IwAR2EsEcufa8oDi2ZVQObPVu-wGLU3QEJxVwnHWuBeIRFBP9NXwt6TCb2Kfs

It is rated a 2 our of 5. I would check your email in the morning but not give it much thought.

My kid went to Hershey a couple of weeks ago when storms were forecast. They got lucky and it mostly rained before and after they were at the park, but they got a rain check ticket from the park anyway.

The school won't cancel. The storm is supposed to come through 7-8am. If it actually is a derecho and takes out power, then the schools may cancel, which would cancel field trips. (And if that happens, we have bigger problems.)

But otherwise, it seems like the storm will be through before buses would leave. After today's heat, those storms will cool everything down and it should be a nice day at Hershey Park.

Drop-off might not be pleasant tomorrow morning at the buses. Buses might take longer to get to the park. The park might start the day with some rides closed for safety. But after the threat has passed, the kids will probably have fun, and sit on wet seats

Me again. I think that by the drop-off time, you'll know what kind of storm it's going to be, and make a decision accordingly. Warn your kid, and wake up early to stay on top of weather developments. Here's the forum I like to read when there's a risk of severe weather:

I get it OP. My kid went to Hershey with school a couple weeks ago. They got poured on at some point, but it was fine. I’m guessing drop off time is pretty early (ours was before 7 am). If that’s the case, they may delay their departure depending on the storm track. If they are at school when a storm comes through, they are relatively safe, staff know how to handle. I get your anxiety, but all will be fine.

My anxiety is eased! I told my dd to expect rain!
