| Is this new Elvis movie supposed to be any good? The lead doesn't look anything like young Elvis. Tom Hanks seems miscast as the manager. What's the early buzz? Is anyone planning to see it? |
| I've heard good reviews. I'm trying to decide if I want to see it in the theater or wait. |
| I may go see it. Only because I enjoy going to the theatre and really miss it, but i agree with both of your observations. |
| I know this is old thread but just watched this b/c it was free on HBOMax. The actor that played Elvis should win an Oscar. He was fantastic as Elvis. Boy that's one celebrity that had it all. |
+1 It's a fabulous movie! I've seen it twice. |
| If you can, go see it in a movie theater. The acting, music, and filming are all amazing!! Kudos to both Austin Butler and Tom Hanks!! |
| I heard negative things but we started watching it last night and I think it's great. I really like Baz Lurhmann films anyway, so his over the top, carnivalesque style appeals. |
| DH and I really liked it. Thought the actor portraying Elvis was fantastic. |
+1000 |
I thought the actor was a great singer but doing Elvis's mannerisms seemed so wooden. It was the few times an actor had less charisma and was less attractive than the real person they portrayed. |
| It was a good movie but depressing. |
| It’s on HBO fools |

I thought Austin Butler was phenomenal especially in the scenes where he is performing. Really amazing.
But ultimately I did not like the movie because of the choice to tell the story through the Colonel’s (Tom Hanks) POV. It was a weird framing device snd I didn’t get it. |
| I was thrown off by the movie’s style, so turned it off after 15 minutes. |
