I know I can wear anything but asking if it’s tasteful to wear all black to dd’s graduation.
It’s fine
I wouldn’t. But there are worse things you could wear. If it is all you have, fine.
Yes, that's fine
I wore black for one reason: to hide my tummy. Looking at my graduation pictures, I regret wearing a black dress.
If it’s outside you will be hot.

Yes. Black is the most formal color and shows respect.
The only time it's a bit iffy is for a wedding or christening, where people traditionally dress in paler colors. My SIL wore black to my day-time wedding, which I thought was perfectly fine but some relatives thought wasn't appropriate. |

Black is fine.
Polyester and other artificially fibers make you hot, because they are not breathable like cotton or linen. If you're worried about sweating, look for 100% linen, linen/cotton blend, or cotton wovens such as batiste, poplin or muslin. Not cotton jersey, which is a stretch knit, clings to skin and is usually thicker and warmer. Also look for looser fabrics and sleeveless or flutter sleeves. |
It’s fine. Just wear comfortable shoes and make sure it’s a summer weight black dress
Yes. Data point: I just watched the livestream of graduation at my niece's prep school, which happened to show really clear shots of the audience, and several of the adult women were in black shift dresses or similar. They looked great. Most had a fun statement necklace of some sort to lighten the look.
No
You can wear black anywhere.
Yes. But if it's outside you will burn up. I would wear whatever you have that is cooler.
I wore a black shift dress at my high school graduation.
I have to worn black to 5 graduations. I look slimmer in black. I think black always looks classy. And most of all I think it looks great next to my graduate and makes them shine.
