Plates and bowls that don't squeak when fork or knife hits them--or,

Anonymous
maybe concentrate on the silverware side...silverware that doesn't screech when hits the plate or bowl?

I *think* that our bowls might just be too old and been in the dishwasher too many times. I recall them having a shine on them about 10 years ago. Our plates, though, are pretty new and they screech like crazy. They are also sort of a dull finish.

It's become impossible to eat without creating the screech sound.

Anyone have any opinions on either why this is, so what material to look out for? or maybe some silverware(besides plastic) that can be used daily that doesn't do this? Maybe nice non-picknicky wooden silverware?

I'm ready to try anything!

Do you use porcelain / china? I notice sounds when I’m using my « nice everyday » plates from Crate and Barrel but not when I use Corelle. Maybe buy a few Corelle pieces and see if they work for you.

Paper.

okay I'll try the corelle. I don't want to go with paper because I'd like reusable.

Anyone have any nice reusable silverware ideas (like wood or something else?)

Yes bamboo and other wooden utensils are trendy now. I personally don’t like the feel and taste of wood though.
Other squeak-free options to try if you’re open: cut with the side of your fork, not a knife. Eat with chopsticks.

Says there’s no glues or varnished or anything except beeswax coating. How can these possibly be dishwasher safe?

I cringed when I read your title because I know exactly what sound that is and how awful it can be. I own correle and Mine to not squeak.

My Corelle set isn't squeaky.
