OP here - thanks for sharing this with us. So very kind of you. This would be a great thing to try to make with our 8 and 5 year olds. Any tips going in that you can provide ?

DP. This looks a lot like my Mom’s recipe, and my tips are to follow the recipe to the letter — have your sheet pan prepped before you start, use a candy thermometer, and know that you’ll need to work quickly after you put in the baking soda. The mixture will “fizz up” and you need to be quick to stir in the nuts and spread out the brittle. It starts to harden very quickly once you take it off the heat. I made this with my Mom when I was a kid, but be careful — the molten sugar will stick to your skin and burn the cr*p out of you. It will look like it’s ruined your pan, but let the pan cool and then run some warm water into it. The sugar will dissolve pretty quickly. |
