| Please go watch last night's episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and learn a little more about why SROs not only don't work but cause harm: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgwqQGvYt0g |
| Why do most of the Principals want them? |
The same principals that support restorative justice? |
I've said it all along, but these geniuses have hyped all these issues of violence to get people worked up and they caved. |
Kickbacks from the Policeman's Union? |
|
No thanks. I’m a parent with 3 kids in MCPS and I support a police presence in school buildings.
What do you propose as an alternative to keep our kids safe? |
+1. I want more counselors, better social / emotional support training for teachers, secured doors, smaller class sizes, and I want SROs. This isn’t an either / or. All of these measures can work together to protect our children. I glanced at your link. There have been links posted recently that present opposing arguments showing how SROs are effective. I’d take the time to find them and post them again, but I suspect we all know that viewpoints won’t be changed on this thread. |
What a false dichotomy. No evidence SROs keep kids safe. |
Did you even look at the evidence presented in the video that SROs increase the level of violence in mass shootings because the shooter arm themselves even more to account for the presence of SROs? |
This. They aren’t “keeping your kids safe.” |
| I very much support SRO's in the building and police stationed outside. You presented one very bias video. Some of them do good. The violence in schools is getting worse. |
I don’t buy it. Again: more school psychologists and counselors, better social / emotional supports, and SROs. Why do we have to pick just one? We are not limited to only one support network. |
That's easy: Principals want SROs to absolve themselves of responsibility. School security reports to principals. SROs report to MCP. |
They're only two kinds of people who feel that way people who don't really have children or people who are misinformed. |
Wonderful show with great information. I wish more people understood the facts. |
