college health insurance

My DC's college offers health insurance for students. We also have comprehensive family health insurance which would cover DC out of state. For those who have kids at colleges that offer insurance: did you double-insure by taking on college health insurance for convenience's sake in addition to keeping the family plan, or did you opt out of the college network and just go by the family insurance plan?

We kept our son on our own policy while he was at UVA. Saved about 2k a year if I remember correctly

No we're not buying the school health insurance. We don't need to pay for more insurance premiums.

I just checked -for UVA it’s now $3,309 a year. We submitted proof t hat DS was on our policy. Just as well because he never needed it so that’s a savings of $12

Opted out. A little annoying because college health services refuses to take insurance but it’s still cheaper to pay out of pocket/try to get reimbursed than to pay $3k in premiums
