Is your trans child using puberty blockers?

Anonymous
If your child is using puberty blockers, what is the process to get them? What were the side affects you had?

I have a boy-to-girl child who is definitely not exploring, this is who she is.

We are ready to take the next step, I’m not sure how to do it?
We had a therapist, do we go through them, or the clueless pediatrician who is not helpful?

We live in Nova, Fairfax region

DCUM hates puberty blockers just a head’s up. The only trans young adult I know wanted to go on hormones as a teen and has support from her parents after a bit but even with full parental support was not able to find a therapist/doctor will to support anything for a minor, much to the whole family’s frustration. She was able to receive treatment as an adult from Whitman Walker as soon as she turned 18. I highly recommend them if you can find anyone to help before then (although I sincerely hope that doesn’t happen to you guys!).

Thank you for the helpful information, and for the heads up on DCUM.
I wasn’t aware that such a close-minded community exited in our area, I’ve always been proud of how socially progressive DC is compared to where my cousins live in the South.

Other peoples opinions are their business, I’m just trying to help my child who is spiraling into depression because of gender dysphoria
Thanks to the helpers, go away close-minded folks. Your mean posts will not change anything in my family.

Hormones are not the same as puberty blockers.

OP I’d probably consult with several different clinics (Childrens, CHOP, Boston) about the medical questions. It’s a big decision since it impacts fertility, bone health, development of normal sex drive and sex organs.

I’m sorry you’re so stressed. Personally I am pro-trans but also extremely medically conservative/skeptical. If I were you I’d be extremely diligent in getting all the possibile information on puberty blockers & therapy. SSRIs can be extremely helpful for anxiety & obsessive thoughts.

How old is your child? This seems to be a critical piece of information you’ve left out.

I have a friend with a male to female trans child. She is 9. They see a therapist who had recommended puberty blockers which basically slow the child more time. It doesn’t permanently block anything. The therapist told her to check in with a physical every 6 months because they would need to start before she starts puberty but you dont need to do it to early. You are not supposed to be on them more than a couple of years.
