Discreet Alcohol

Anonymous
I am going with my DD11 to an academic competition on a college campus for 5 days. A friend who went with her older child and is attending again said we should bring some adult beverages, because after the kids go to bed, we'll sit in the dorm hallway and socialize. I have to admit I'm excited about this, I don't get out much lol. What would you bring in that situation? Something to share easily? Like some sort of individual drink, or rely on solo cups? We're carpooling, so I don't want to take up a lot of space for this-- but then again said friend is driving us so she won't mind either way. WWYD? Thanks!

We are drinkers so would bring a couple bottles of wine and also a bottle of gin and good tonic and lime or dark and stormy ingredients (ginger beer, goslings rum). Why do you have to be so discrete? Are there firm rules about alcohol in the dorms? You don't need to hide anything from your daughter right?

Well, I mean, what do you like? It’s not about sneaking in alcohol like it might have been in college, so really your taste preferences should drive it, right?

Ha this is funny. Id do individual drinks because I don't like dealing with cups plus the big container. You could go full college student and do white claws.

I don't need to drink alcohol to socialize. I hardly ever drink, actually. But to answer your question, I'd go for practicality and buy something easy to transport and hold in my hand.

A pp here. I too don’t “need to drink alcohol to socialize” but I enjoy it sometimes, perhaps like the OP does?

So whatever it is you like, OP - beer, wine, sparkling wine, cider, cocktails - I’d look for it in single-serving cans. Just about everything comes this way now. It will be a easier and yes, more discreet. Enjoy!

Small bottles of wine from the liquor store, that can be poured into a coffee travel mug.

Don't drink out of solo cups. Don't you have a plastic cup you can bring? I have a set of "adult" plastic cups I use when we are outside for cocktails. Bring 2 of those (one for you, one for friend). What you pour in it is whatever you like to drink. I'd probably bring some wine in bottles, packed carefully in my suitcase. Then if we drank that, I'd buy more at the destination. Get twist off tops.

I'd just do wine, or bottled cocktails if you have access to ice.

Bring a Yeti cup or similar and drink out of that

This is a wine in a travel coffee mug situation. Maximum discretion.

You could do a mixed drink I guess, but then you are fussing with ice, and you need somewhere to mix them.

(Is it the one in Vermont?)

My drink when I have to drink from a solo cup or coffee mug is a wine spritzer- white wine with sparkling water. It doesn’t matter how good the wine is, drinking it from something other than a wine glass ruins the taste for me. For some reason, a spritzer just works better in this situation.

Kim Crawford comes in cans so is actually decent. Could also buy a bunch of alcohol minis if you want mixed drinks.
