It just occurred to me that I've been buying some form of diaper/pull-ups for my son for 7+ years now, as I was finalizing another amazon order for the things.
Sigh. Am I the only one that feels utterly defeated that I have a 7 year old that still pees the bed EVERY. SINGLE. NIGHT?? I don't mean occasional accidents once in a blue moon, I mean he wakes up with his pull-up (we use Goodnites) full, like a single drop away from a gel-bead explosion. Very often, they leak anyways...which makes me feel all the more foolish for wasting money on pull ups for all these years. Last night he leaked through the Goodnight, through sheets, blankets, everything. He was wet up to his shoulders. Does anyone have any kind of an alternative suggestion..? I'd even be willing to use cloth--as long as we can find something, anything...that could hold up to the amount of pee a 7 year old heavy wetter can put out overnight. |
| You have to toilet train for nighttime, did you just skip that part of the process? |
|
| OP, I assume you have talked to his doctor etc. about all of this? |
Have him stop drinking 1-2 hours before bedtime if he's not already. |
| Hey OP, no advice but I’m in the same boat. We limit water before bed and DS still wakes up with a soaked pull up. Pediatrician says it’s normal. |

My 9 year old still pees every single night as well. She uses a washable incontinence mat on top of her sheet and I just wash it along with her wet pjs in the morning. She started refusing to wear a pull up 2 years ago.
Boys are tough though. My 7 year old boy only has rare accidents, but when he does the pee somehow gets everywhere! |
Not OP, but eff you. |

This was life-changing for us. https://www.bedwettingtherapy.com/
I think once you get past a certain developmental window and continue to wear pull-ups it takes FOREVER to stop wetting the bed bc you don’t have natural consequences of actually feeling the discomfort of wetness. My oldest FINALLY outgrew pull ups but it took forever. My second (8) used this with great success so I then used it on my third (4) also with great success. I’m talking completely night trained in under a week. My fourth I was smart enough not to start using pull-ups at night and he was night trained by 3. Good luck! I have no affiliation with this product but it was life-changing for us. Totally worth the frequent waking for under a week - stick to the program and then you will be free of pull-ups forever! |
Yes we have. Absolutely no medical issues causing it. Dr. basically said it's a combination of him being a big sleeper (always has been) and genetics (DH had occasional accidents until he was 11). |
WTF are you talking about? I did nothing to toilet train my kids at night. We toilet trained them, and then they naturally stopped peeing at night. Which is what happens as most bodies mature a bit. For some kids, it's takes a long time. There is no "training", only mitigation straegies. The kid is asleep. It's not a conscious choice that they are making. Shame does not fix it! Surprise! |
Mine didn't stop having accidents at night until he was 9. It is normal. Talk to your pediatrician if you are worried but present it as matter of fact. Your child is having accidents at night, he doesn't wake up when he needs to pee, and his accidents are large enough to make their way through the Goodnites. Don't say it in a way that makes it sound like you thin it is a problem or embarrassing because it is normal or might be a medical problem. You don't want your child to feel like he is doing something wrong. |
Yep. He used to big a big drinker in the evening, but we've been on the routine of limiting drinks before bedtime for so long, he rarely even asks these days. We aren't majorly strict on it anymore, simply because he doesn't really seem thirsty in the evenings much these days. |
Hugs OP. My niece wet the bed until she was 9. It was just genetic. Once it's over, it will be over. |
I just re-read this and it totally sounds like an infomercial but you can find it on Amazon - read the reviews if you want to hear others’ experiences! TheraPee - The World's #1 Bedwetting Solution https://a.co/d/giwX2yb |
