It means teachers, principal and school AART think your kid needs to be challenged more in a specific subject area. Also means your kid is on their radar for Level IV come 3rd grade.
If your kid is Level II for math they will get pullout work in a small group with classroom teacher (at our school) that is harder than rest of class assignments. In reading, more of a crapshoot. Basically they are in the top reading group. |

No one can tell you what it means because it is is different at each school. We are in a language immersion program so there was no Level 1 in first grade. In Second grade DS was in L2 for math and reading. There were no pullouts. DS was in a special reading group and was given extra math work sheets.
Mainly it means that the school thinks that your kid needs something a little more challenging. The AART is looking at your child and so might know them a bit better when it is time to write GBRSs for AAP. |

It likely means teachers are doing what they should be doing, but are often spread too thin to do it -- different reading and math groups. |

| It basically means nothing. Don’t get hopes up. Level II can actually be removed without notifying parents. All kids get level 2…in the classroom. |
No, all kids get Level I in the classroom. Level II is suppose to be different but every school handles it differently. There are some schools that do pull outs for Level II and others that do nothing. My DS was at a school that did little to nothing, he had some different math work sheets but I never heard any discussion of differentiated instruction. |
| I feel like it just means the school knows they need some advanced instruction. They likely won’t get it. But based on my experiences with my kids it does seem like those getting level 2 do have a higher chance of getting level 4 later. |

| My kids were Level II in 1st and 2nd grade but did not seem to get any differentiated instruction. They had wonderful teachers that were very busy with other things. They definitely did not get any advanced instruction from the AART. It is not of any use at our school but perhaps it looks favorable on the Level IV referral for 3rd grade. |
| Unfortunately, it depends on the school. My DC was level 2 for 1st Grade at one school and 2nd Grade at another school. The first school had weekly pullouts with the AAP teacher (45 mins). They did out-box thinking, and other challenging work. Her new school the AAP does NOTHING.... they only teach to the general population of kids. My DC did not receive even challenging work in her cjavascript:void(0);urrent classroom. Two different experiences. It's driven by the AAP teacher. |

Um, okay, are you looking for some weird "gotcha" moment? WTF? I read the FCPS forum, so yeah, I know there's an AAP forum and I have largely ignored it because, hello, I have a kindergartener and I don't care about this stuff. |
