Decisions, Decisions, Decisions !!!

Well the clock is ticking and decisions have to be finalized. Where are families choosing and why? I will start.

We chose Beauvoir for our DC mainly because of the focus on early learners. We also thought the curriculum would be appropriate for our DC. I wish everyone luck next school year enjoy your choices.

We chose GDS. Lots of hand-wringing, but ultimately decided that GDS had the right mix of what we were looking for - progressive environment, strong academics, emphasis on community service and diverse student body (and maybe most importantly it goes through high school so we don't have to go through this process again!)

Maybe it would be helpful if posters posted what schools they were accepted to, in order to put the final decision in a greater context.

I agree with the PP. Much more helpful to also indicate where else you were accepted to better understand your decision.

okay thanks for making all of us who didn't get accepted anywhere feel even worse. gosh, congrats, you got into all of these great schools. why rub it in to those of us who didn't? who cares why you chose what school. just be happy with your decision and talk about something else for god's sake! it is over. move on.

My family is choosing public school, we don't have bookoo bucks. But even if we did, I think I'd still stay in the public schools.

Our child also was not accepted anywhere, but I an still interested in hearing about how people made their decisions, in case we decide to apply again in the future. If you're not interested, maybe you should be the one to "move on."

Agree with PP - if someone is not interested, they don't have to read the thread. OP's intent did not appear to be gloating IMHO. And it's not "over" for many of us. Waitlists are moving - forcing still more decisions - and people may want to plan in advance for their children's education.

If someone feels bitter, they can certainly start their own thread about it.

I had been wondering if we were the only family on these boards with a child that did not get in anywhere for next year; it appears there are three. No waitlists either. We applied for K. My understanding is that one's odds do not increase with grade 1.

Maret and GDS have a handful of openings for 1st grade each year (probably around 5 or so).

For those whose children were waitlisted or denied at various schools, have you tried calling schools to which you did not apply to see if they still have openings in the grades you desire? There may be schools who are still looking to fill a few spots at various grades because the school's acceptance numbers did not pan out as they had hoped. Just a thought - there may be some other options than those you have already tried.

after reading some of the posts about families not having a spot for kindergarten, I know someone who was in a similar spot and called Norwood to see if they ever consider late applications for K. She was surprised that the answer was yes – they shoot for a class of 48 but are sometimes willing to grow it to 54 over the course of the spring and summer with late admits or out-of-towners. It may be worth a shot ....

Thank you for this advice. My husband has placed a couple of calls. Some schools seem to be open to late apps., but are also waiting to see how their 4/1 (?) numbers pan out. We also called a school where we were rejected to see if they'd reconsider our application...haven't heard back yet, so not a good sign I am guessing.

We only applied to the schools that we were truly interested in, so it doesn't make any sense for us to do this. Thanks for the advice though. From what I've read on other threads, there may be some openings at various places.
