WISC V results

My child scored 128 in the full scale IQ and 133 in general ability. Percentile seems to be 97th for both.
Is this results average or good enough for school such as Sidwell and Cathedral schools?

Some of the scores were very high (99.6%) and some were much lower (58%). Does that make a difference? It seems to be that verbal comprehension and fluid reasoning were very high, while memory and processing speed were much lower.

Thank you

That's plenty high for anywhere, OP.

Thank you for your reply. I had searched forum a bit and found a few posts saying to not bother applying to competitive private schools unless the kids scored above 130

Not true at all. Plenty of “high average” kids in all of these schools despite what dcum would have you believe.

WISC and WPPSI scores are nowhere near the most important factors in determining whether your child is admitted or not.

126 kid got into one of the schools mentioned above and the 141 did not get in.

DD with 145 FSIQ did not get into FCPS AAP but did get into a private school. I think it's all a weird black box.

With such a huge gap between the scores you should get your child evaluated as 2e. I have a child like this in Big 3, so it's not a show stopper. It will help you understand how your child learns.

Wtf? None of the private schools ask, or care about how high a kids IQ is. And believe me, IQ isn’t everything. I grew up with someone with a high IQ, and they failed miserably at life. It doesn’t automatically give you some magical life. It’s all how you choose to use it.

I often find that the most intelligent people are the ones who don’t brag about it, are humble and just generally cool to be around. They’re don’t put on airs.

School psychologist here. I would also recommend a full neuropsychological evaluation, because the variation in scores could signal a learning disability.

OP here. Thanks! The psychologist who administered the test thinks my child has no learning disabilities. She is extremely focused and hardworking working. She does speak multiple languages and English is not her first language and the psychologist said this might affect processing speed which in tunes affects working memory.

I was wondering if the score is common at top schools. For those that have experience, will the score hinder my daughter’s acceptance?

No it will not hinder acceptance.

Just keep in mind as the child learns to read, if you do see signs of a learning difference get a full panel in middle of first grade.

Thank you. She took the WISC V (not the WPPSi). She is 8.5, has read/is reading several Harry Potter books and scored very high on the ERB.

I was only asking to see whether a 128 or 133 (I am actually not sure which number is the total one used) score will hinder her application to private school. I read on this forum that below 130 it might have been a problem for top schools.

None of the schools we applied to, sidwell, maret, NCS, GDS, asked for the test scores. My daughter was accepted into several. Her iq is average.
