Islam and Covid vaccine: is it true that the vaccine is considered not “halal?”

Anonymous
My sister is a nurse in a major metropolitan area in the US and related to me that they have had an unusually high number of hospitalizations of people of practice Islam, because the vaccine is considered unclean.

She said it’s very sad to see people ill and so terribly affected, because they refuse to get vaccinated.

The Nation of Islam was discouraging it, but that’s not the same as all of Islam. Most reputable Muslim scholars have taken the position that getting vaccinated is not only permissible but also required under Sharia law, because it prevents harm.

There is no established religion that has said you should not get vaccinated. Some weirdo sects where a local low-information “official” has said you shouldn’t are out there, but even the Christian scientists have said it’s okay.

Here's an interesting article on it if you'd like to learn more behind both the science of what's in the vaccine and the religious requirements of keeping halal:

I’m friends with many Muslim doctors who are big supporters of vaccine and got their families vaccinated and boosted. I guess depends upon what sort of Muslims.
