| I used a small, local business for some products for a party I hosted. I wanted to pay the invoice at pickup, but they said they would invoice me instead. I received the bill and it was astronomical. I have most of the product left, as I did not use and didn't know the cost. I had mentioned how many people I was hosting, what I was looking for, etc. I decided today to email and ask them if I could return the products and pay the remaining balance? I was looking to spend around $200. They provided me with $600 of products. Or do I just suck it up and pay it? |
| I would ask but did you not have any idea how much you would be expecting? You just left it open? Like, I would ask for an estimate if I was planning to spend that much on something. |
|
You didn't have a contract or email agreement about the products, amount, or cost?
Are the products food? |
|
Lesson learned, OP.
You should have asked for prices and gotten a detailed estimate in writing before placing your order. |
| OP here. It’s products from a nonalcoholic wine a d spirits distributor. Mocktails |
Did you tell them ‘I’m having 15 people and my budget it $200. Does this sound right to you?’ Or ‘Can you tell me the cost of this for 15 people?’ Or did you just say ‘I’m having 15 people and I’d like the mixers for these four mock tails’. First two, you should have proof they went way over budget. Third option, you are most likely sol. |
| Did you also verify you could return unopened, nonperishable items? |
| Id they're still sealed in the original packaging you could try to return. |
| OP here it’s a pop up shop in a store I frequent. I told them how much I needed. I asked for an invoice. They had it ready for me at pickup and insisted they just invoice me. I wish I had not left the store with the product. Thinking I’ll suck it up and pay |
| I mean, I think you have to pay. It sounds like you never discussed nor confirmed price with them. It’s a lesson for next time. |
It is weird that they did not have the invoice ready, but you shoukd have asked for prices. Are you trying to say they mislead you on the price? |
| If the remaining product is sealed, I would return it and tell them that they accidentally provided you with too much product. Worth a try, but this is why you get an invoice or pay at pickup. |
Did they provide you with the amount you asked for? What made you think it would cost only $200? If they gave you what you ordered and you never asked them the price, you can't complain after the fact that it cost more than you hoped. |
This sounds fun... can you tell us the name? |
