I'm trying to figure out childcare options the last ~3 weeks of August - the gap between when summer camp ends and school starts. What do parents usually do during this time, besides the obvious "go on a family vacation?" We are a family where both parents work full-time, have always relied on daycare for childcare, and previously were able to take advantage of work from home. We have two kids, 5 and under.
Is it typical to be hiring a full-time nanny for only a couple weeks, and how does that even work/where to find? |
There are camps that run in August. That's where my 4 year old will be. |
There are many camps those weeks. |
See if your daycare has a summer program. Our did. We’re in elementary now. Have camps through park’s services. |
Hire high school or college kids if around, |
Those are hard weeks. The reason camps end is because the college aged counselors go back to school, so it's hard to find sitters (although you might get lucky).
We do our vacation the and a combination of one-week camps, Grandma care, and stressing. In my office a colleague and her husband each take a week off in June and a week off in August to care for the kids ("Mommy camp" and "Daddy camp"). They don't get a summer vacation together. But it saves the cost of another four weeks of camp. |
I doubt you’ll find a nanny for just those three weeks. Even a typical college babysitter won’t stick it out.
But you should post in the daycare forum. |
We alternate weeks off as well. We aren’t taking a vacation. |
You should be able to find a temp nanny through an agency |
