Ovulated before trigger shot for IUI

Anonymous
I am so upset, I’m almost positive I ovulated naturally the evening of my trigger shot. I had been having the same symptoms i usually do before ovulation and pretty sure I felt the twinges in the side I knew my largest follicle was on.

Trigger was Tuesday night and my IUI was this morning.

Has this ever happened to anyone and has it ended up working out? This is my first cycle so I didn’t honestly think to call my nurse that morning and ask for another US (I had been in sat-mon for monitoring).

I’m sorry, if you ovulated 36 hours-ish before the IUI, the cycle is probably a bust. If the egg released even 12 hours later, you may have a shot though!

Next time ask for/insist on an ultrasound. I tended to premature ovulation and they got in the habit of doing one quick scan to confirm it wasn’t too late.

Good luck and I’m sorry.

I found that my clinic was often off on timing so by my 4th cycle I just had sex nightly up until the day of the trigger and again the day after IUI. Who knows if that's what did it but currently pregnant

Are you taking your temperature? If so, you would be able to confirm when you ovulated.

I’d start taking it now. Get a basal body thermometer and take it every morning before you get out of bed. Track it.

I found that it really helped having that piece of data.

Good luck!

Basal temperature can be off by 24-36 hours as well, depending on how quickly your hormones shift after ovulation. If you actually want to pinpoint ovulation, you need an ultrasound.
