Adaptive PE

Anonymous
Anyone here with a MS kid doing adaptive PE? How does it work? Did it help your kid at school?

Mine did. Mine had adaptive PE in the mainstream class. Mine also had social skills issues so when he had a cool young adaptive PE teacher it helped him socially. I think it helped some physically too and he could not always follow the rules of the game so he needed someone explaining it more.

What does it typically look like? Is it like a para who joins the regular PE and helps make it more appropriate for the kid, or is it a separate class?

Do kids in adaptive PE have to meet the same grade level standards as the other kids?

NP here. I'm sure it depends on the student's abilities. This video shows Falls Church HS's Adaptive PE program. Tom Harlow is exceptional so the video might not reflect other schools' programs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqyhYcueGMg
