If you have this problem, can you recommend your favorite bodysuit or give some guidance?
I recently decided I wanted to try wearing bodysuits, so I bought a couple of Leith/AFRM bodysuits (Nordstrom) and they're just fine, except... I am 5'2" and have a short torso, so the scoop and V necklines dip so low they show my bras. Like a lot of my tops and dresses, they basically need to be taken up at the shoulder, but this seems like a waste for something that costs $15-20 on sale and is nothing special. I'm talking mostly plain black and white, mostly sleeveless or long-sleeved, that's it. I don't think I just need a smaller size, but anything is possible-- if you found that was the case for you, let me know. (I would think a smaller size would end up dipping even lower or giving me a wedgie in the thong area?) Fashion tape to make sure they don't show my bra just makes them look bunchy and weird. I think I just need bodysuits that come in petite sizes? I see Gap has some...? Or where else can I get some good ones? Thanks! |
| I wear a size small in tops and dresses and don't have that problem. Sounds like you wear larger sizes? I'd use clothing tape or sew those edges together if it's showing too much |
? I also wear a size small-- a designer size 4. Could it be possible that we have... different body shapes? Different torso lengths? Actually to be less snarky, I'm just not sure why this would be more of an issue for anyone at any particular size vs another, so please do enlighten me. As I said, I used clothing tape, it doesn't work well for this purpose, and sewing the edges together wouldn't work because it's less an issue of too much cleavage than my bra showing over the top. I can absolutely take these up at the shoulder or pay for someone to do so, but that's a pain-- I was looking mostly for brand recommendations. |
lmao "I haven't said anything about my clothing size or my body, except that my body seems to be too small in one respect for a particular kind of clothing. If you have this problem, what do you do?" "I don't have this problem. It's probably because I wear a smaller size than you do." |
Size xsmall or small is designed with a short and petite torso in mind. Larger sizes are designed for a broader chest so if your tops are size small and exposing too much you may need to try a smaller size in tops or change to petite xsmall or petite small. |
People who laugh with no reason are donkeys |
| I am not even sure what a body suit is, but someone once explained to me that some people have a relatively shorter length between their head and chest. Which made me realize that is why I have so many problems with normal clothes being too revealing. For v-necks, I can wear a cami. Not sure if that works in your situation. |

Women's body sizes really have multiple ratios hidden within each size. Sizes basically represent a height/weight combination, mostly dominated by weight. But the height:weight ratio, and the torso:legs ratio, really matter, especially in jumpsuits.
If you pull up the shoulders, is the crotch a problem? I am tall (5'8"), but relatively short-torso and long-leg. I can pull up a dress or overalls with no problem. But my friend - same overall height and weight - gets a massive wedgie if she pulls a body-length anything up from the shoulders. More torso than leg in her case. If it works, I'd start by pulling up the shoulders. Alterations might be pricey, or you can pin/sew it yourself if you are able. Shoulder seams can be tricky if it affects the sleeves (sleeveless is WAY easier to alter). If that throws the waist off too much, you're stuck with taping or wearing something under. |
I do understand this, so I guess I'm willing to try an XS, but I have broad shoulders, a big ribcage and size 30F boobs (not actually that huge, most people with the same boobs would wear like a 34D bra). I just have a really short torso. I would love to switch to a "Petite Small" or whatever! That was largely the question in my post. It was... the title. Let me try again: Who sells petite-sized bodysuits of decent quality? |
This is a completely reasonable answer, and I thank you. As I mentioned, I am willing to get them taken up at the shoulders-- especially the sleeveless kind would "only" cost me $10-15 with the alterations person I use. And the very simply-constructed ones, I'm willing to take up myself, as I do have a sewing machine. But I figured it would be nicer if I could find something that fit better off the rack, if possible. Especially when we're talking longer sleeved bodysuits (I haven't even tried purchasing yet) which present a more complicated alterations job. I will say that I find the idea of having to "wear something under" a bodysuit kind of to defeat the purpose. To answer your question, there's so much vertical torso room in the suits that I would not get a wedgie if I took them up at the shoulder-- I pinned them up thinking I might try to alter the two I own already, and it was fine. I probably will alter these (although they're double-layered, so I don't think my work will look as nice as if I paid, but I don't have DCUM $$$). But for future purposes, I just want to find a brand or petite size or something!! that works better for short torsos on a relatively short person. Who wears a size small already. |

| I am also petite (5'3", 100lbs) and like Aritzia bodysuits: https://www.aritzia.com/us/en/clothing/bodysuits |

Why a bodysuit, in particular? Are you looking for a clean line where the item tucks into pants?
One suggestion -- since it sounds like you sew -- convert well-fitting t-shirts into a body by sewing in an underpiece. I think you could do this with cotton briefs and some extra t-shirt fabric. |
Yeah, that pp is incorrect smaller size means circumferences, not length. You need a petite height, or a shoulder alteration. There must be a brand out there. |
| Try Gap |
