What illness is this going around schools?

It's not COVID (though there is COVID going around). But lots of kids and parents at my school are getting fever, cough, congestion for a week (and testing negative for COVID). Is this going around all of DC? Could it be flu?

I don't know but my DD had it last week and now I do. It's miserable. Negative step and negative covid. No fever - just lots of coughing and congestion so it seems like a nasty run-of-the-mill cold.

I had those same symptoms for 5 days in April. I tested myself everyday and kept testing negative for COVID. On the 6th day, when my symptoms were resolving and I was feeling much better, I finally tested positive. I tested positive for the following 8 days and had very mild symptoms during that time. My husband then went through the same symptoms and got positive test result a week after me.

Just FYI...it could be COVID

My child just had this. Negative for flu, strep and covid. A few kids in her class have covid, including one who sits next to her. They are unmasked. My theory is that she actually had covid, but her prior infection and vaccines allowed her to fight it off so that it never showed positive on a test.

You think she had covid even though she tested negative for covid? Did you do a PCR?

why do we live in the upside-down world.

My 1st grader has it. 3 days of fever with congestion and fatigue. Negative for covid (antigen and PCR). PK sibling brought home a stomach bug at the same time, so it's been a super fun week.

We have this from a Hill preschool. Has wrecked our family for like 1.5 weeks; worse in kids than adults. No fevers though. 5-10 consecutive daily rapid covid tests over 5 household members (+ 1 PCR each; 2 for 1 kid), so I am really confident it’s something else.

3rd grader had a fever Monday afternoon. Vaccinated. Tuesday getting better. Didn’t test positive. Now she is lively and ready to go to school and she tested positive. No symptoms at this point. No school this week. Weird disease. Good thing had enough tests to keep testing her. She may not have been wearing her mask like she was supposed to.

Teacher who is living with it right now. It’s gross and I wish it were covid so I could stop going into work while coughing up phlegm

DH and 1 DC have been sick since Sunday. Covid is running rampant at school, but all rapid tests have been negative. Seems late in the season for the flu. DH swears this is how covid felt for him last summer. We’re currently waiting for PCR test results.

NP but your viral load can be low enough to not be picked up by a rapid
