COVID news release:
https://www2.montgomerycountymd.gov/mcgportalapps/Press_Detail.aspx?Item_ID=40563 "If we keep doing our individual parts, as a community, we can tamp down this increase in the case rate and avoid going back to days of more restrictive measures.” What other leaders are threatening 2020-style restrictions if we don't do our parts, whatever that means? Seriously, who is thinking this way in 2022? It is very out of touch. |
| I don’t see where anyone is threatening 2020-like restrictions such as lockdowns. It says to get vaccinated and booster (which 90% of people are anyway), get tested (who cares), and recommends (not mandates) masks in crowded indoor spaces, which a lot of people still do regardless. I don’t know what you’re so worked up about. |
|
Which is why no health officer wants to work for Elrich:

NP.. what does "going back to days of more restrictive measures." mean to you? |
|
I wasn't keeping up with local politics before, but I am a BIG fan of Elrich, just because of his handling of the pandemic. He's one of the rare politicians to get it. Everything written down in that press release makes complete sense. |
|
Oh. I thought it was because he sent over an operating budget built on one time revenues that won’t sustain annual spending moving forward. Or a capital budget that was $70 million over spending affordability guidelines.
He has run the county into the ground. |

| There are so many issues going on in the county today that need to be addressed. He has a bizarre obsession with covid. |
|
The funny thing is that the County Council can sit as the County Board of Health and enact all public health measures that they deem necessary.
So Hans Riemer (hi, I see you), the guy who wants to replace him, can at any moment show his “leadership” to promote alternative measures. So where is Hans? |
Hans Riemer, who is running against him, has been on the County Council for the last 12 years serving in various capacities as the Council President and chair of the PHED committee which is responsible for housing and economic development. The County Council in Montgomery County has more power than the County Executive and is responsible for setting the operating budget. So every Elrich failure is actually an even bigger Riemer failure. |
|
It's really funny how every couple of months, the same poster tries to start a thread bashing Elrich, and perhaps gets a couple of responses from like-minded posters (or maybe OP sock-puppets), but that Elrich was re-elected comfortably by residents, in one of the most educated and wealthy counties in the nation, home of the National Institutes of Health, and other scientists, lawyers and doctors. Sorry you can't understand the most basic science and economics. |
Not letting Council off the hook. But when they constantly have to repair a bad budget, we all lose. They all prioritize their pet projects instead of shoring up core public services. And that’s why the county is going downhill. Fast. |
He hasn’t been re-elected. This is his first term. Council doesn’t count. He was a do nothing progressive who never held a leadership position. |
| The only rational choice is Blair. Elrich is in over his head, and Riemer lies so much that it makes him look malevolent. |
He’s got a big following among independents. They need to change their registration to democrat. |
