This is an interesting article about which schools produce the most Fulbright Scholars. In your opinion, how prestigious is Fulbright Scholars?

| Super prestigious. Right below Rhodes scholars and maybe above the Marshall scholars. |
uh, no. Marshall eclipses both for anyone who knows anything about these scholarships. There are so many Fulbrights that they do t register. There are also many other scholarships after Rhodes and before Fulbrights that are better. Also the mission statements differ. |
| Agree re: Marshall. My husband has had TWO Fulbrights and my MIL one. They aren’t slam dunks or anything, but it is true there are a lot of them so the numbers work in applicants’ favor as opposed to Marshalls or Rhodes. |
Fulbright serms like teaching English in a foreign country. They call it Fulbright What am I missing? |

OMG. I saw the initial post and though "How wonderful!"
Leave it to DCUM to start throwing shade and comparing/rating scholarships. It's all good, People. |
Well, it would have been but 19:12 came out of nowhere saying nonsense that had to be corrected |
There are research grants and teaching grants. |
| For a scholarship that isn't "prestigious," an awful lot of students attending prestigious colleges and universities seem to be applying. Brown, Harvard, and Notre Dame students typically don't gun for slacker awards. |
|
I was a Fulbright scholar, graduated from an Ivy (not HYP). There were many in my year but we were all in the top 10% of our class. So, to the extent you consider being a top student at an Ivy (or similar) prestigious, a Fulbright is prestigious.
My friend was a Marshall scholar, and that is more impressive and rare. His girlfriend was a Rhodes scholar, which is WAY WAY more impressive and not really on the same level as everyone else. |
| My DH went to an Ivy and then did archeology for a year in the Middle East on a Fulbright. |
+1 -- Another Fulbright scholar |
| Also, when it comes to Fulbrights, as others have noted there are teaching ones and research ones. Teaching ones are much easier to get and are less prestigious, and research ones are hardest to get in countries where the native language is English because there's more competition. You really can't apply for a research grant to, say, Argentina if you aren't fluent in Spanish. Of course, fluency in more than one language is a good thing in itself. |
| This thread is illustrative of why it is a waste of time to play the prestige game, kids. |
Nope. amAsk any academic -the Marshall is more prestigious and more difficult to get. |
