Do I need to schedule the next interview ASAP?

Anonymous
I'm in the interviewing process and advanced to a second interview. When I went to schedule with an online scheduling tool they sent me, the only options are this Friday at a time that is really not good for me, or next Thursday or Friday. I would like to not interview this Friday because it would mean switching around a ton of things in my schedule and foregoing a rare opportunity. But does it put me at a disadvantage or make me look like I'm not serious if I don't schedule until next Friday? That seems so far away. (There is only one time open next Thursday, and it's not ideal for me but would be possible.)

Do you have a sense for how structured their hiring process is?

My current company is extremely structured and tells candidates the exact process up front. Picking next week would not hurt you at all. They don't fast track any candidates or make a decision until all interviews are done, even if one of the candidates has to push back (within reason).

My last company was pretty unstructured and definitely had a recency bias or would fast-track an early candidate if they liked them. I still don't think a week would be a huge deal. The usual advice is interview as quickly as you can, but I think an extra week is ok if they offered that date.

Most companies are slow as hell. I doubt it matters

It’s fine. They listed it as an available date. Presumably they will make a final hiring decision once they’ve completed second round interviews of all remaining candidates. Good luck!

This. If they offered it, it's fair game. They may be interviewing other people over the next week or two, so it's all the same to them.

I wouldn't risk it. If you can move things around I'd do sooner. You may get to the finish line before the others and there is a benefit to doing so.
