Infants, Toddlers, & Preschoolers
Love the 2 I have. I am 38. Curious what other folks like to use if not planning on children. Want my husband to eventually do the "snip snip" but he is not ready yet. . . . any input welcome. I was on the pill for a long time, and while I think it is fine, some concerns with being on it so long. Condoms are a drag though. Anyway, thanks for the info!
I love my Mirena IUD. I post about it every time this comes up here. It was briefly uncomfortable going in, and after that, I felt nothing at all, and my periods are very light. I just love it after years of sort of remembering the pill and finding the patch unreliable. I plan to have mine out in a couple years, have another kid, and then get another one while I talk DH into a vasectomy... Mirena IUD's last 5 years and tend to make your periods lighter; copper IUD's last 10 years and don't usually make periods lighter/may make them heavier (is what I hear, anyway).

I am reluctant to recommend any form of birth control to my sis who is like you op. They all have risks for women, if it is not a chemical in your body, it's some device.
She urged her husband to get a vasectomy, and he did. My other sis got her hubbie to have one. |
Have him snip, snip now or he'll never do it. Trust me - I'm speaking from experience. "Next year, honey, I promise..."

I had my tubes tied.
You can tell her DH that if he doesn't have the SNIP, that you will have to use abstinence as a form of BC. |
IUD
I'm in the same delima-I have an appt. on the 22nd with my gyn-I'll bring up the IUD.
IUD. Why make your husband do something irrevocable?
I'm very interested in the UID. We use condoms and I'm getting bladder infections-my husband feels very bad. This might be a good alternative. Is it painful to have it inserted? I had a CVS when I was pregnant, and they had to go through my cervix to get a sample if the placenta. It's probably similar to that-but I hate pain. Any feedback???
I got a Mirena IUD a few weeks ago, and so far so good. It was not at all painful to insert/place -- felt pretty much like a regular GYN exam, but a few minutes longer. The doctor used topical ointment to numb my cervix (she said similar to what they use at the dentist) and after that I wasn't at all uncomfortable down there. Later in the day I had a bit of menstrual-type cramping later in the day and a tiny bit of of pink discharge, but then we were ready to play that night!

Has anyone used the copper IUD and liked it? We are looking for a non-hormonal BC that isn't condoms before DH gets snipped in a few years.
I had a copper IUD for about five years before kids, and then last spring after having baby #2, I got another one. I think they're great. The only side effects I have had are some cramps on the day of insertion and somewhat heavier periods.
