I need to move a motorcycle 2 miles, but can’t drive it

Anonymous
My ex had a huge stroke. That’s the end of driving motorcycles for him. I was going to try to help him sell it, but I need to move it out of a paid storage place. It’s big and heavy. I have never driven a bike, and don’t intend to start now.

This seems like a relatively simple problem to solve, but I don’t know how I could get it onto a truck. I don’t know anyone who knows how to drive one.

Is there someone who’s solved this problem before? It seems silly to hire someone to tow it 2 miles, but I’m not sure we have other options.

If you’re on FB or similar, I would post asking if anyone you know who is local has a motorcycle license who could do this for you.

If that’s a no, just call a tow truck.

Where are you located?

A motorcycle license is different from a driver's license. Post on Craigslist or Facebook asking to hire someone to move it from Point A to Point B for you.

I would post on your local FB or Nextdoor group. Someone will do it for you. Did your ex ride with a group? One of them would probably do it. Bikers stick together.

Just post on your neighborhood Listserve / group. My DH did just this a few weeks ago for someone in the neighborhood who hurt his back and couldn’t move his motorcycle.

I’d just have it towed. Seems cheapest and least risky.

Agreed. hiring some rando off craiglist is a good way to get it stolen.

South end of Springfield.

I thought about hiring someone from Craigslist, but it’s a nice BMW bike. I don’t want it to get stolen.

I’ll ask around among my neighbors, and see who has a license. If I can’t find anyone, I’ll hire a tow company. I am moving out of the area in another 6 weeks, and I am worried that whoever else takes over the bill paying will forget to pay the bill, and he will lose the bike.

I’m sorry about the stroke, OP! If you ask on your neighborhood listserve, maybe a neighbor can help you.

List it for sale and whoever buys it can move it.

This is the answer.

Dante is a good guy. I call him whenever my bike needs to get towed.

Don't call a regular tow truck, they will often screw up the bike. People who tow bikes have specialized equipment.

Are you on next door? Ask to see I if so one can help you there.
