Car engine replacement. How do car geeks get away with using different type engines?

Anonymous
I see on YouTube about car aficionados using this or that engine as a replacement instead of the original type engine. I wonder how that is possible. Are car engine mounts standardized such that many engines will fit?

I don’t know if this is possible on modern cars. Older cars had a lot of space under the hood. The new ones, front is packed with stuff.

If it doesn't fit the existing mounts, you weld in new ones.

A lot of manufacturers make different versions of the same family of engine. If that’s the case then you don’t need to do a lot of customizing.

There is a level of skills like mine: replace a radiator, remove the cylinder heads to send out for machining, adjust the valves, replace the timing belt.

Then there are the people who can weld in new motor mounts that are not only in the right place but are the correct type for the motor and loads that are required. They cut out and weld in new sections of firewall to accommodate the new transmission. Source, install and test new drive shafts and suspension components to make it all work. High skills and they often do it just for fun.
