A Facebook group had a mom that said she gets 300 back with her premium membership at Costco, which at 2 percent back comes out to 15k a year or 1,250 spent per month. She said she also shops at Sam's but didn't disclose those numbers.
Does this sound insane to anyone else? |
| Seems like a lot but I’d like to know how many in her family before I judge. |
| No, my gf has 4 kids and goes to Costco 1-2/x a month and says she spends 1k+ each time. This is on top of grocery shopping at local supermarkets too. Teenagers eat a lot. |
| Wow amazing. I only shop at good stores so I would not know |
| If she does most of her grocery shopping there then it's totally normal. We easily spend 1200/mo on food for our family of 4, not all at costco. We don't even eat much because my kids are still young. Can you image teen boys? That could get very expensive, especially if they eat lots of meat. I like the meat at Costco. |
Let me translate this...."I'm a total snob and I want to air that on an anonymous forum to help me with my insecurity by putting you down." Did I get that right? |
How many better reasons do people post on anonymous forums |

All depends what she spends at other grocery stores.
We spend about $500/week for family of 3 for all groceries. No costco. |
Your family of 3 spends 2k per month on groceries? Even if this includes takeout, that seems high. I get 700 a month of food stamps for my family of 3 and it seems to be more than enough even when buying nice/organic items, and I'm in CA |

I buy for others also so yes it's possible. She may not want anyone to know so she just said the total.
It's the internet. People always want to be what they don't need to be. Kids eat a lot but not that much. |
| I spent $280 this week at Costco and I go there about once a month. I spend about $1000/month on groceries for a family of 4. |
We only eat take out once a week for dinner. Maybe once a month we do take out lunch too. No school lunches or breakfasts either - we make it ourselves. $700 would have us not eating much. 7-8 years ago, when we ate tons of rice and beans and pasta at least 3 days a week, and when food cost half of what it does now, like chicken on sale 99 cents a pound, steaks on sale was $5/lb., we spent $600/month on groceries. |
| Family of 3. We do most of our grocery shopping at Costco. We go about every 7-10 days and spend $150-200. So maybe $700 month. We do eat out on average maybe 4 times a month. |
| Family of 4, once a month, $350-$400. Mostly meat, eggs, snack things like Kind bars and Goldfish, dog food, paper towels, foil, zip lock bags and laundry detergent. Although on occasion other items - very happy with our Kirkland luggage for example |
