where to go for acupunture

Anonymous
Anyone have a place to reccomend, preferrably in Arlington or Alexandria?

Also, does insurance typically cover acupunture?

Thanks!

The only company I know of that covers accupuncture is Blue Cross Blue Shield Standard (Federal Government). Sorry, I don't know of any accupuncturists in va.

I really like Katie Kapusnik at Vital in Del Ray. http://www.vitalbodymindtherapies.com/katie.html

coverage depends on your insurance plan. i have UHC and it covers accupuncture. best to call and find out.

I've been really happy with Arthur Fan in McLean/Tysons. He's very kind and supportive, super knowledgeable re infertility (NIH research etc.), and I was pregnant with DC#1 after the first month. No clue if it was causation or just coincidence, but I'm hoping for a similar BFP this time around as we're TTC DC#2!

Not sure about insurance -- I think it differs from plan to plan. I would call the number on the back of your card. If they cover it, you may have to choose from a list of their preferred providers, so definitely check beforehand.

Good luck!

Njemile Carol Jones (www.fertileliving.com) is in Alexandria and is fertility focused. She is the only local practitioner who has studied under Randine Lewis. I have not personally gone to her, but a friend has and HIGHLY recommends her.

I've been going to the Center for Integrative Medicine. It's @ Foggy Bottom (not VA) but they're really great.

I have UHC and they only cover accupuncture for pain management so I'm paying OOP but have appealed-we'll see what happens.

For those of you doing accupuncture, how long did you do it for and how many days/week were recommended? I've been going for a month 2 days/week (one front and one back). At the end of the 4 weeks (this Friday) we will discuss how to move forward and how often I should go.

I've been with Kerri Westhauser in Falls Church. Her office is just past 7 corners. She takes my insurance, but I am Fed Blue Cross which I know is good for acupuncture. I am doing an FET with Columbia Fertility and so far so good! Will post with good news I hope.

Kathe Ana is in Arlington and flexible hours http://www.heavenlybodiesclinic.com/

Lisa Eaves is in DC - love her but her hours are limited and it's a bit of a drive

at my peak I was doing acupuncture 2x/week for a couple months - prepping for an upcoming cycle...

I think I was just going 1x/week in general though

I see someone at Crossings in Silver Spring (www.crossingshealing.com); the practitioners there are excellent and trained by the Tai Sophia Institute. There is a provider directory at the school's website (http://www.tai.edu/Practitioners.aspx). Sorry to not be more helpful for NOVA specifically!

Acupuncture was covered at 80% of the allowed amount by my BCBS PPO plan when I was on it (which worked out to about 1/2 of the actual cost). It's also an allowed expense reimbursable by an FSA plan, if you have one.

I have seen her. She can be moody at times and if she doesn't particularly like you, you'll know it.
