Date night activities

Anonymous
DH and I are having a rough time, and have decided to try a once a week date as a way to connect. We have childcare from 5 - 9 one night in the middle of the week. Ideally we'd have dinner, and do an activity. So far we've gone to a movie, bowling, and gone ice skating. We're happy to drive all over the DMV to try something.

Ideas on activities with restaurants nearby?

so important! good for you.

I like going for walks in different parts of town. Something about talking side by side is very therapeutic. Shopping sometimes, lots of movies. Maybe a baseball game?

Good for you! I've been doing this for about a year and it improved my quality of life SO immensely. A lot of times, we just go to a restaurant and eat or have drinks -- it's so much more relaxing than going to a restaurant with our child. In nice weather, try somewhere with a great view - Old Town Alexandria waterfront, etc. Other ideas:

-golf or TopGolf
-disc golf
-hiking or long walk
-bike ride
-cooking class
-Kennedy Center or other performance
-movie theater
-couple's massage

Awesome! I love our weekly dates. Lately with the good weather I have been gravitating toward nature walks (on paced trails, I’m not that adventurous) but I also love museums. Art museums offer a lot of opportunities to have fun banter.

If you want a word of advice, remember that the benefits of weekly dates are like compound interest: they start slowly but they do add up.

Go for a hike and have dinner/drinks at a brewery or winery.

These are good suggestions.

Will add:

- soccer game. Indoor skydiving (Ifly). REI Coop hike or kayaking class. Indoor shooting range (Elite Shooting Sports). Get a sitter and visit Harpers Ferry. Ropes course. Billygoat trail.

hahaha this is so random. It would be fun for some people but definitely personality dependent. I loathe driving and was a ball of nerves when we test drove a car recently

Step outside your comfort zone and visit Pine Tree Associates in Annapolis. 1st visit is free and there are some great restaurants nearby to regroup after you put your clothes back on. Tried it ourselves at the suggestion of friends and our marital life has been boosted

Excellent idea! We've been there, too.
