MCT language vs AoPS

Re-posting from classes forum

Hello parents that have used MCT language class ( not homeschooled) and / or AoPS for language,

My DD is 9 and currently in 3 rd grade in MCPS - not happy with the grammar and writing - even though she is an above average reader ( Lexi approx 1200). However, she is lazy about writing and especially informational text etc.

After doing some online research- AoPS writing ( which will be totally teacher dependent) and MCT language during the school year / summer creative writing seem to be good options for us. my child does well with online classes- pays attention, does the work etc. My goal is great language foundation and writing practice.

What do you parents think? Looking for input specifically form parents that have experience with either/ both AoPS ( gaithesburg vs vienna) and MCT language course. Also, how do I determine which level to start with for MCT? Do they actually have teacher teaching or just available for help?

Thank you !

I’ve used AoPS thought it was terrible. I’ve known parents that used MCT and were happy with it but I have no direct experience with it. I like SRA Direct instruction or OG personally but would choose MCT over AoPS

The parents I knew that used it were homeschooling their children, I don’t know if there’s a difference between the program you’re talking about and what they were using.

NP here. Also looking at AOPS. What is MCT? I looked at the website and was able to figure out DD’s level but I’m unclear whether there are classes or is it something we do at home? Other than AOPS, what other ELA classes are out there? My daughter is in a bilingual school and the English instruction is weak. I would rather not pull her out because I want her to be fluent in my mother tongue.

Art of Problem Solving is the gold standard for math, and was founded by a mathematician.

Not sure how great it is for other things.
