Sweetgreen - why is it so uninspired now?

Anonymous
Why has Sweetgreen gone down in creativity, variety and frankly quality so badly over the past few years?? Is it pandemic related? I feel like it pre-dates that even.

I remember when I first discovered sweetgreen many, many years ago. I was literally thrilled to eat their salads - and I am NOT a salad person - because they had such creative and delicious ingredients. In the summer, lots of berries and fruit in general. Even just a few years ago, they had a salad that had crab meat in it! Very cool!

Some of the issue is they claimed they were trying to be even healthier - that’s what caused them to drop the cheddar cheese apparently. That was disappointing.

But it’s SO much worse now. They have such boring salads and ingredients are so-so.

I know Sweetgreen started in the DC area so hoping someone has insight. Why are they so mediocre now? What a disappointment…

I never found it that exciting. Always prefer Chopt.

I think Sweetgreen still has good options -- but the best ones are all online only. Are you visiting the actual store to order?

I only order online. To me, the menu has really not varied much over years

NP but I don’t get this. There are a bunch of bowls that can only be ordered online for pickup in the store? Why couldn’t you order the same bowl in the store?

I found a bug in mine last month. I used to get Sweet Greens 3x a week pre pandemic. Now once every few months and the quality has definitely gone down. I’m sad to say, I’m officially done with them.

I used to love SweetGreen too and now never want it. They used to change up the bowls often with temporary ingredients like roasted beets, but now they stay mostly the same all the time. And they added that new chicken which I don't like as much. I'm sure the business went down during the pandemic a lot and they've had to cut costs.

I miss their falafel salad.

I used to order once per week because of the baked falafel. When they lost that, you could either replace with sesame tofu (nope, not for me) or chicken (don't eat meat.) That was kind of it for me. Did they lose falafel because it's "not healthy"? It wasn't even fried.

Honestly? Because of capitalism. This is a prime example of why increasing profits at all costs sucks. You end up with sh!t product. But hey, good for the rich arseholes who started the thing. I’m totally sure they are employing people at a living wage and making the world a better place.

I mean it’s salad - so it’s not like it’s ever really been creative.

The creativity and quality of prepared food, in general, has gone down. I no longer go out for lunch the few days a week I am in the office. I pack it or wait until I get home to eat. I’m saving money to boot.
