This data is from Sat 5/7/22. There have been 1517 active infections at MCPS within the last 10 days. This is 60 more than reported on 5/5. 177 students and 12 staff reported new infections on Friday, and 97 students and 21 staff reported new infections on Saturday. Of 209 schools in MCPS, 55 (26%) are improving, 82 (39%) are steady without new infections, and 72 (34%) are getting worse.

Deepest sympathies to those infected before Mother's Day. Not a pleasant way to spend time with the family and best wishes on a speedy recovery. For those preparing for Monday classes, thankfully Mother Nature is helping out and the weather forecast has improved dramatically. Outdoor activities should help to reduce numbers overall this week.

28 schools report above 2%.

To put this next article in context, MCPS had 11 schools with 29 or more infections, two of them elementary schools.

"One of the schools, Rumford Elementary, was shut down for three days this week after 29 students and 16 staff members tested positive, the school’s principal Jill Bartash said in a statement posted on social media Wednesday." https://news.yahoo.com/states-where-covid-cases-again-131941818.html

A warning for the upcoming fall to MCPS Central Office staff. Please prepare accordingly this summer:

"More than 40 states are seeing substantial increases and officials are discussing bringing back mask mandates." https://news.yahoo.com/covid-cases-rise-across-us-082458382.html

"The cases nationwide are already up 50 percent in just the last two weeks with hospitalizations up by 21 percent. And the White House is sounding the alarm about a new COVID wave this fall and winter." https://news.yahoo.com/white-house-sounding-alarm-over-133402441.html

"The Biden administration is preparing for the possibility that 100 million Americans — roughly 30% of the population — will get infected with the coronavirus this fall and winter, according to the administration official, who spoke on condition of anonymity." https://news.yahoo.com/white-house-plans-vaccines-no-144026201.html

My kid tells me the Julius West cases are mostly kids who were involved with a theater production -- a lot of people involved with the show got sick.

If you had Covid, that would be counted as one. Sending your kid was irresponsible.

No, it’s following the guidelines. And how does a parent count as one case? You people make no sense.

And for the last few days there have been three total pediatric patients hospitalized with Covid across the state, the lowest level since November.

Because the tests aren't always conclusive. You have covid. Your son is probably asymptomatic, you sociopathic piece of scum. You deliberately sent a sick child to school to infect others.

That wasn’t me. I was a NP. But if the child is asymptomatic, vaxxed and boosted they are absolutely allowed to go to school masked. You can’t call someone scum and sociopathic for following the guidelines.

Look, yelling at individual posters on DCUM who are following the current guidelines ain’t gonna get you anywhere- your child could be sitting next to a student who’s been exposed to Covid too, but they’re not advertising it. You need to lobby MCPS to change the rules- actually you would need to lobby the CDC too because that’s who MCPS is following.

Otherwise if you are not happy with the rules but can’t be bothered to try to change them, pull your kid and homeschool .

How is an asymptomatic kid sick? Once again, you can’t make your own rules then get pissed because no one is following them. An asymptomatic vaxxed and boosted kid can absolutely go to school if they have been exposed to Covid.
You’re pissing into the wind, my friend.

It’s unreasonable to keep a vaxxed, boosted, asymptomatic kid, who has repeatedly tested negative, home from school — and I say this as someone who has been more cautious than most.
