Hi, my kid was just admitted to a travel soccer team last March. The tryouts for next season are in a couple of weeks. How common is for a kid who is already in the travel team to be placed in “development” again? He really likes the team but I am considering attending several tryouts just in case.
Thanks. |
| This will get moved to the soccer forum but in our case the last 2 seasons have seen several on the top tier team get moved back down. This year in particular because another local club imploded and many of those players tried out for DS’s club. |
| It’s hard to answer this without knowing the specifics of what club you’re with, but most teams require you to try out every year. There’s no guarantee. |

It really depends on the space they have and the influx of other players. Most clubs will continue to carry players that were in travel even if they fall behind for a year because kids grow at different paces and a child who is behind one year might be a star the next year and because it makes good business sense.
For some age groups I have seen consolidation that leads to some players being completely cut but that is usually in the older age groups. |
| I mean they will keep them on the travel side of things rather than their other programs but it may be on a lower team. |
| Many thanks everyone for your answers. I didn’t know there was a specific soccer forum. I will look it up. Many thanks again. |
