giving back info to others going through this process

Anonymous
Hi all,

I'm writing this message as I sit next to my sleeping baby, really thankful to the information I found in this forum while going through our infertility process, so I wanted to share our journey hoping it will help someone in the future.

My wife had 3 miscarriages in less than a year: 2 missed miscarriages and 1 chemical pregnancy.
The first two were dismissed by two different ob gyns as "bad luck". When the chemical happened, we decided to see a specialist.

We went to Dr. Abassi at Columbia Fertility. She ran a ton of tests and she found 4 things that could be the cause:
1. PAI-1 heterozygote
2. Factor XIII heterozygote (extremely rare, like in the 100s of cases worldwide).
3. Luteal phase defect
4. Elevated NK cells.

Since the PAI-1 and Factor XIII are clotting disorders, we saw Dr. Kessler at Georgetown.
For MFM we saw Dr. Hickey and Dr. Hammersley at Rockville MFM.

Abassi's protocol was Lovenox and aspirin for the clotting issues, intralipid infusions and prednisone for the NK cells, and progesterone for the luteal phase defect.
Dr. Hammersley also recommended a ton of supplements and a gluten and dairy free diet.
It was a lot for my wife, but seeing how the pregnancy was progressing uneventfully through the weeks gave us strength. We were going to the MFM for sonnos every couple of weeks, so we were keeping a super close check on everyrhing, and things went great. As uneventful a pregnancy as we could have hoped for.

Feel free to ask any questions!
