Roof cargo help

Anonymous
Fell in love and purchased a pre owned Jeep Cherokee Lux with only 3k miles at an incredible loyalty price. Just now decided to add roof cargo. Serious wanderlust at the moment. It has roof vertical rails. Just checked Thule site and I'm confused.

Is it possible to attach a modest size, slimline box to the existing vertical rails? Or do all roof cargos require horizontal racks? If so, do they clip on to the vertical rails?

Kind of delusional in thinking I can buy and install it myself. I'm tired of online shipping. It's a crappy, rainy day and I want to go to a store and buy the simplest kit and install it today. Help? ~She/her/5'4" 110 lbs. Strong but petite.

If you don't have help, its near impossible to get stuff up and down. If it already has vertical rails you only need the other ones. I cannot get stuff on my roof as I'm short.

Go to REI. They can help you install. You need the crossbars, if the Jeep doesn’t already have them. Then you install the box on the crossbars. It’s pretty easy to do, though you’ll likely need a step ladder or a tall person to help you take the box on and off your roof.

Pep boys sells the cross bars and easy to install.

1. You DO need crossbars.

2. The Thule boxes are very easy to install, but it takes two people to get the box on and off the car. I can get stuff out on my own, but I keep a small folding stepstool in my car when we travel with the roof box. (It's just a small, one step type like small kids use in the bathroom to reach the sink.)

Thanks everyone! Nope can’t do it myself. REI is awesome, thanks pp! Walked me through their site to order box, rails, and foot rack. Free install with online purchase shipped directly to store.

Yes, they are great. Free shipping if you send it to the store and pick it up there. Saved me like $150 in shipping costs.
