Fig tree survival odds

Anonymous
Small fig tree in a 7 quart pot was left outside and something ate it all the way down to about an inch and a half out of the soil, there are no leaves, just three 1.5” tiny stumps; can this be saved?
My FIL grew it from a sapling about two years ago and I’d hate to think that all his work is going to be lost.

Besides protecting it from whatever is eating it should I do anything special to increase the chances?

Thank you so much.

I had to literally saw through and cut the main root off when it grew through the pot and down into the ground. We were moving so no choice. Somehow mine is still going strong! Wishing your fig tree the very best.

It should bounce back. Fertilize when you see new growth. Mine dies down to the ground every year and leafs out by June

It should be just fine. I’d say keep it well watered, but I think Mother Nature is taking care of that for you.
