| Does anyone know when TJ will release their admission decisions? The website says mid-May but does not list a specific date. Will notices be sent via mail or email? Thanks. |
| I'm guessing it will be released next Friday (May 13) |
| I would be 99% sure it will either be today or next Friday as PP indicated. It will definitely be a Friday either way. |
| Email says 2500+ applicants this year. Guessing then that this is a significant drop from last year (3034), or do people think that 2900 can also equal 2500+? |
There were 2940 initial applications - a slight dip from the previous year but not especially significant. The 2500+ number refers to the number of applicants who ended up being adjudged as "qualified" after their first quarter grades came out - remember, unlike previous years where students only had to maintain a 3.0 GPA in order to remain eligible, with the new process they must maintain a 3.5 or above. |
Thank you for the information. So 3034 should be compared to 2940. Thanks. |
Yep - that's the more appropriate comparison. |
| Sounds like the novelty of the new approach is wearing off and fewer families are interested in participating in this game. Good for them. |
Demographic trends clearly are escaping you, since the current 8th grade cohort is smaller than last year's. The level of interest is roughly the same. Next year, the cohort will drop more dramatically in size, so you can expect a similar drop in initial applications.

I took it to mean the higher bar weeded out more unqualified applicants. |
lol |
In a sense, this is true. The 3.5 GPA bar made it much more likely that a student who initially applied in August or September would be rendered ineligible by the end of the first semester. |
| Is Algebra 1 enrollment required to apply? |
