DS is a junior and currently looking at W&M. Can he use ap credit to satisfy the coll curriculum requirements? |
No. Unlike at some state colleges, COLL is not a random selection of weedout Gen Eds, but a carefully designed and rigorous interdisciplinary curriculum. An AP course would most likely not compare in terms of difficulty and rigor. AP Credits, can, however, satisfy a few requirements for Intro Classes such as Intro to Psychology.
Sorry if this sounded snarky! |
Definitely not something to crowdsource here among strangers. Admissions offices must answer these kinds of things all the time. Asking will not jeopardize anything. Also: The PP above seems to have a good handle on this so I'd take that as a starting point and ask W&M to confirm what that PP says. |
I guess I’d look at it that the COLL curriculum is a big draw to W&M. People go specifically because they like that sort of liberal arts education. So why try take an end run around it? |
This is a complicated issue. The answer is "sometimes." AP and transfer credits count toward lower-level distribution requirements and proficiencies (like math, arts, etc). They don't count for the two required freshman seminars or the upper-level COLL 200 classes (of which there are only 3), which must be taken at W&M.
This website makes it pretty clear: https://www.wm.edu/as/undergraduate/coll/index.php |
I'd say worry about getting in first. |
