Re a guarantor for an apartment your son wants in NYC, what documents does the broker need from you?

If you are the guarantor, do you have to provide your own financial info to the broker? Income, ss number, etc?
Also, what is the guarantor legally responsible for besides the rent? Apartment wont be shared with anyone
else, but he will probably have friends over to visit, maybe even stay overnight.
