Sport scholarship for middle school?

Does anybody have experience getting your child full scholarship based on sports? How hard is it to get it? Is there more possibility in high school than in middle school? Should you start with the coach or the admission? Thanks.

good luck with that. If your kid is 6'7 as an eighth grader they may have a chance at certain high schools.

No privates offer scholarships for sports in MS. You are better off waiting until high school….the sports thing might help you get in but nobody is giving you money for your 7th grade basketball star…

and no one is probably offering a full scholarship. perhaps somewhere, but not at most of the schools discussed here.

My sibling got a full scholarship to St John’s in 9th grade but this was the 90s so don’t know about nowadays.

and that would've been one of my exceptions here.

It’s worth a try

Middle schools make no money from having winning sports teams. If they have teams for a particular sport, those more skilled athletes probably play on other travel teams and treat their school team as a secondary extra curricular, but get their real coaching from travel/club sports.

If someone else has a different experience, I'd love to hear it, but as far as I know, it isn't a thing.

9th grade is not middle school. There are high school scholarships starting in 9th (not a lot but some). MS sport is basically a replacement for PE. All the games happen during the school day- not after. That tells you all you need to know. For schools it’s a nice to have not a need to have. If you want a scholarship apply for high school assuming your athlete is a top 5% athlete…

Also, HS scholarships will not be labeled “sports” either. An athlete may get a lot of aid, but it will not (cannot) be called a sports scholarship.

Most sports don’t have this kind of pull either.
