Where to buy a good suit

Anonymous
Any suggestions on where to buy a good suit? I'm kind of sick of Ann Taylor and find their stuff seems to wear out quickly particularly the linings. I dropped in Brooks Brothers the other day. Their stuff was way TOO conservative for my taste. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm willing to spend some money if I found the right one.

Thanks

Banana Republic and J.Crew have nice suits, but their clothes don't fit me well (I'm short and curvy). They seem to fit the long and lean types better. Good luck!

I have a Dana Buchman suit that I bought on sale at Nordstrom years ago and still love it.

I can always find something at Nordstrom, so I don't bother wasting time going from store to store. And I have a hard to fit figure -- very hippy. Plus they have really good seamstresses who can adjust a suit to fit you really well. I remember years ago I had to make a presentation, and the seamstress turned a regular suit into an incredibly flattering hourglass shape -- I felt like a million bucks.

Loehman's in Chevy Chase, Neiman Marcus when they have one of their semi-annual sales (prices are about the same as non-sale Ann Taylor for much better quality), same for Saks. Talbot's.

Ditto on Nordstrom. If you need help, the personal shopper is great. Also, the women in the department with the suits are super helpful as well. The woman who helped me with my second suit just brought me a bunch of things. She asked me about my style preference and price range and then went from there.

I've purchased several suits from Lord and Taylor and Macy's.

Not sure what size you're looking for, but both stores have a great Petite selection, and run decent sales.

I agree about Ann Taylor. Used to get suits from their often, but their quality has just gone downhill.

Big fan of Theory. I also like BR (Banana Republic) and JCrew and sometimes can find things at Filenes. I also like Calvin Klein on occasion. I am sick of AT and don't think they are really worth the money.
