Apr 27 Data (improvement)

Of 209 schools in MCPS, 80 (38%) are improving, 103 (49%) are steady without new infections, and only 26 (12%) are getting worse. Total case count dropped from 1344 to 1233. If this happens again tomorrow, then it's a clear indication the coronavirus wave is passing. 53% (110 of 209) schools in MCPS have 4 or more reported infections in the past 10 days (also dropping).

We are over 5K cases for April.

Why isn’t the new MCPS Medical Director speaking up? She is a pediatrician.

What do you want her to say? Most people are tired of pivots and reading between the lines. Anyway, time to get ready for school...

MCPS wants herd immunity by just doing nothing to prevent the spread of COVID. It’s driven by politics and ignorance. Kids and staff will infect love ones and the spread will be passed on to people who will be hospitalized and die. Those with access to good medical care, will receive antiviral treatments so the poor will be unequally affected.

It took us two years to get to this spot, but thankfully we're here.

Most people are ready to move on. Public policy is set for the masses not the tiny minority numbers. MoCo is "green" per the CDC, and they are following CDC guidelines.

From an epidemiology standpoint, this is fascinating.

Some European countries saw a significant spike weeks ago from this variant (France is still deep in the red), and we were expecting a similar surge, which took a long time to come and is now rather unimpressive. Vaccinations rates are similar, and were at about the same time.

One explanation is that so many Americans caught Omicron over Christmas break and January, that they have a slight natural immunity edge over Europeans who are equally vaccinated but might not have caught Omicron in such large numbers.

But even with that explanation, it's still surprising this subvariant took so long to cross the Atlantic, considering it's even more contagious than Omicron, and the peak in Europe was weeks ago.

I think that so much resistance has built up (vaccine, natural, and/or both) that it's spreading but it's largely just a minimal episode at this point.

DP.. how is that PP a covid denier when the PP is acknowledging resistance build up to covid? Your knee jerk reaction to anyone who isn't as fearful of covidas you is making you look like someone who has a mental health issue.

I think many people are sick but are testing. My boss was hacking away for a week at work spreading germs to everyone he contacted. It’s easy to spread when you leave the house sick and don’t wear a mask. In a school environment with no masks, that’s a perfect place for COVID to spread.

Julie Taddeo loves to create fear. This sounds like her twitter account.
